INDIRECT RATE CALCULATION, RESTRUCTURED

Stop calculating rates in spreadsheets.

Rate Studio replaces the tab-hopping, formula-breaking rate model with a structure you map once — then calculate against, forever, without ever touching your trial balance again.

FEATURES

Built for rate structures, not spreadsheets.

Everything below exists to remove one thing: the broken formula you find at 11pm before a submission is due.

No Excel, no formulas

Map your rate structure visually. No hunting for the one cell that broke the whole model.

Map once, reuse forever

Build your pools and bases a single time. Every future calculation starts from that same structure.

Upload your TB once

Load a trial balance or budget one time, then run any number of structures against it — no re-uploading.

Split & reassign accounts

Move accounts between pools and bases, or split one across several, without rebuilding anything.

Your data stays local

Files and data are stored locally, so you control security and compliance — nothing sits in someone else's cloud.

$

One annual fee

No per-seat pricing, no metered calculations. Pay once a year, calculate as often as the work requires.

Export to Excel & PDF

Every structure and rate is exportable, formatted, and ready to hand to your CO or auditor.

Audit-ready documentation

Every rate and structure is fully documented, so you can support it under audit without reconstructing your work.

MODES

Three ways to calculate — pick the one the moment calls for.

Each mode builds on the last. Start simple, add scenario testing when you need it, and run full model comparisons when the stakes go up.

01

Single Calculation

One clean rate calculation for a period. Built for the reporting and compliance work you do every month.

02

What-If Analysis

Change a driver and watch the rate move in real time. Test a reorg, a new contract mix, or a rate cap before it happens.

03

Multi-Model Strategy

Run several structures side-by-side, compare outcomes, and choose the one that fits your business a year from now.

PRICING

Sized to your firm, priced for what you use.

Choose your firm size, then pick the calculation mode for this plan. Every mode is cumulative — What-If includes everything in Single Calculation, and Multi-Model includes everything in What-If.

SECURITY

Built around how GovCon contractors already think about data.

Indirect rate data is business-sensitive by nature, and Rate Studio's architecture reflects that from the ground up.

Local by default

Your trial balance, budget, and calculated rates are stored locally, on your own machine.

Built for GovCon's posture

Designed around the NIST 800-171 / CMMC expectations your organization already operates under.

You control the data

Nothing leaves your machine unless you choose to export or share it. No hidden background sync.

FAQ

Questions worth asking before you buy.

The ten questions we hear most often, grouped the way a buyer actually works through them.

Does Rate Studio replace my accounting software?
No. Your GovCon accounting system — Costpoint, JAMIS, Unanet, or similar — stays your system of record for current, actual rates. Rate Studio is where the forward-looking work happens: budget rate calculation, what-if scenario modeling, structure comparison, and independent validation of the rates your system is already producing.
I already calculate my rates in Excel. Why switch?
Excel gets you a rate, but the calculation depends entirely on formulas staying intact — one broken reference, one copied tab, one moved cell, and every downstream rate is wrong without any warning. This isn't a skill issue; even disciplined Excel users with named ranges and structured tables run into it. Rate Studio enforces the cascade structure itself, so there's no formula for a human to accidentally break.
What's the difference between Single Calculation, What-If, and Multi-Model?
They're cumulative, not separate products. Single Calculation runs one set of rates for one period. What-If includes everything in Single Calculation, plus the ability to adjust inputs and see the cascade recompute in real time. Multi-Model includes everything in What-If, plus building and comparing several rate structures side by side. Whichever edition you buy, you're not missing capability from the tier below it.
Which subscription level — Solo/SMB, Small Firm, or Enterprise — is right for us?
It depends on pool complexity and how many clients you're calculating for, not on which edition you need. A single contractor with a straightforward pool structure fits Solo/SMB. An advisory firm managing several clients' rates needs Small Firm or Enterprise capacity, regardless of whether they're on Single Calculation or Multi-Model.
Can Rate Studio check rates I've already calculated, or only build new ones?
Both — and this is one of the most common uses even at the base edition. Cost pools and indirect rate reports in most accounting software depend on manually maintained GL account ranges. When a new account gets added and isn't added to the right range, the pools and the rate report can quietly start pulling different numbers. A Single Calculation run directly against your GL detail is an independent check that your current rates still reflect what's actually in your books.
Where does our financial data go — is it secure?
Rate Studio's current architecture runs client-side: calculations happen in your browser, and files save locally to your own machine rather than to a hosted server. Nothing about your rate data leaves your control by default. Read the full Security Overview.
Do you offer help beyond the software itself?
Yes — our advisory team offers done-for-you rate structure design, calculation, and firm training, for organizations who'd rather have an expert build and run it than do it themselves in the tool. See advisory services.
Is this built for DCAA compliance and CAS standards?
Yes — the cascade structure (Fringe → Intermediate → Overhead → MSOH → G&A), pool allocation rules, and base treatment follow DCAA-expected practice and CAS standards, including handling for B&P/IR&D treatment and single-element base structures like AASHTO/DOT requirements.
Can we upgrade editions or subscription levels later?
Yes. Since editions are cumulative, moving from Single Calculation up to What-If or Multi-Model doesn't require rebuilding anything — you're adding capability on top of what you already have. Moving between subscription levels (e.g., Small Firm to Enterprise) is a capacity change, not a data migration.
Is there a demo or trial before we commit?
DIY Demo — explore a read-only version yourself, with sample data, on your own schedule. Start the self-serve demo.

Live Demo — prefer a guided walkthrough with our team instead? Book a free live demo.
Who built this, and why should we trust the math?
Rate Studio comes out of Corvata's advisory practice, built by a published author on GovCon accounting who has structured these exact rate pools for real contractors under real audits. The calculation logic is built from doing this work directly — real pools, real contractors, real audits.
